Biography

Andrew Blewett BMus PGDip LGSM

A graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and a post-graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Andrew is developing his career as an orchestral and solo trumpet player. A Cornishman, his roots are as a cornet player in brass bands and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain although, aged 17, he performed on trumpet and cornet to achieve a licentiateship from the Guildhall School of Music.

During degree studies he furthered his cornet skills, and played with the renowned Cory Band and the Brighouse and Rastrick Band. Andrew also developed his trumpet skills, playing in the college orchestras and with the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines in concert. Whilst at college, Andrew was a national winner of the Harry Mortimer Memorial Trust Award.

For post-graduate studies, Andrew concentrated on the trumpet and played with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for a BBC Radio 3 recording and also in concert. He has also occasionally visited his roots; playing with the Black Dyke Band and regularly with the Fodens Band. Andrew has recorded for various brass bands and also for a recording artist associated with BBC Radio 1. In 2007 he recorded a solo trumpet work for a project managed by the BOSE Corporation in the USA.

Andrew lives in Manchester where he currently does freelance work with the BBC Philharmonic alongside auditioning with various British and European orchestras, and exploring solo recital work. Andrew is in demand as a soloist as well as featuring with local orchestras. Andrew also teaches as a peripatetic brass tutor for the Trafford Music Service and also has a teaching post based in Oldham.

In his spare time Andrew enjoys playing golf and following Manchester United football club!
